As the demand for skilled human capital in green construction grows to meet climate goals, it’s essential to ensure that this transition is inclusive and equitable. Developing robust workforce strategies that equip youth and marginalized communities with the necessary skills is critical to creating a just transition. However, systemic barriers have historically limited access to these emerging opportunities, particularly for underrepresented groups.
Through Tremco’s Achieve Green program, supported by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) Workforce Equity Grant,Julius played a critical role in guiding its inaugural cohort of students toward careers in green construction. From the outset, Julius conducted in-depth onboarding assessments to identify each student’s strengths, interests, and potential career paths within the green construction industry. Our trained career coaches then led the students through reflective sessions, helping them align their personal goals with viable career opportunities.
By offering personalized career navigation and development support, Julius helped the students successfully navigate the requirements of the IUPAT District Council 35 Boston pre-apprenticeship program. As a result, all students are now on a clear path to becoming apprentice glaziers—professionals who will play a key role in the green transition by installing and maintaining energy-efficient windows and facades.
This program not only empowered these young individuals but also contributed to creating a more inclusive workforce in the green construction industry. Julius’s role was pivotal in breaking down barriers and providing the tools and guidance necessary for long-term career success in this rapidly growing sector.
What I like most is that I was able to express how I want my future to go and have steps on how I’m going to get there!”
