Julius & EPRI Co-Author Workforce Skills of the Future for the Electric Sector

June 2022 - Julius and EPRI have co-authored a whitepaper "Workforce Skills of the Future: A Methodological Framework for Organizations to Adapt to a Rapidly Changing Electric Sector". Those working in a utility environment will appreciate the unprecedented levels of change sweeping the sector, but they may not be fully aware that the skill requirements for new and existing jobs are also changing at lightning speed. While some roles are experiencing complete upheaval and others are more subtly impacted, there are few—if any—roles that will remain completely untouched by the current pace of change and disruption. How utility organizations prepare for industry developments and how they adapt their hiring and upskilling practices for current and future transformation will be critical to their ability to execute their mission. In the face of this daunting skills transformation challenge, most organizations are attempting to mitigate the effects of the ongoing changes individually, leading to potentially expensive or at worst, inefficient upskilling or reskilling programs. Organizations themselves undoubtedly have the best individual purview on their future needs and corresponding talent requirements, but they may overlook the commonality for a potentially large share of talent transformation across the sector. Those working in a utility environment will appreciate the unprecedented levels of change sweeping the sector, but they may not be fully aware that the skill requirements for new and existing jobs are also changing at lightning speed.
